The festival, which was first celebrated in the 13th century, acknowledges the blessings the people receive from the gods of the land. The festival has an aquatic theme and always features a boat regatta, fishing competitions and a swimming event which explains the predominant occupation of the Epe people which is fishing. It.’s an award night which seeks to honour talented directors, actors, and producers as well as designers and technicians across Africa who gather to compete in 25 categories. Ikeji Cultural Festival Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA, Imo State Mid April This festival which is one of the biggest cultural celebrations in Igbo land is popular for bringing the Igbo speaking community around the world together and is held in Imo State every year. The event spreads across three local government areas in Imo State .– Ideato North, Okigwe and Onuimo. The festival usually features magical masquerades. This event dates back to the 5th centuries. There are five main types of performers who feature at the event. These include Abuja, who entertains women and children, the whip-wielding Ojionu figure, by a .‘restrainer.’, and two ceremonial characters and their group of followers. The event serves as a unifying factor for the Aro people and fosters ties among them. The people are spread across the entire Igbo speaking states and parts of Cross River State.
